White Ribbon Day Reflections

I barely had time to catch my breath after last week’s White Ribbon Day Proclamation Event before hopping on a train to New York for The Center for Study of Men and Masculinities' International Conference. Riding the four-hour train into Manhattan provided me the perfect opportunity to reflect on that afternoon. Days later, it is even more clear to me that the momentum for this work is building as the inquiries, calls, emails and activity continues.

Each of Us Can Do Something

A Guest Blog by David Sullivan, Northwestern District Attorney. David is the co-chair of Massachusetts White Ribbon Day 2015.

David Sullivan The walk down the long corridor of the Hampshire Probate & Family Court ended at my office. Right next door was the Safe Plan office, a place dedicated to helping victims of domestic violence seek protection from an abusive current or former partner. On too many occasions, I saw mothers with their young children playing with a toy or filling out a coloring book. It made me sad, it made me angry, it woke me up to the fact that domestic violence really existed in my community. It was a daily walk I took for 8 years as the Chief Administrator for the family court. But my walk was so much easier than the journey each of these victims took to seek help for themselves and their children.

White Ribbon Day Campaign Affiliates Summer Meeting Kicks off 7th Season

The level and range of activities happening in Massachusetts under the umbrella of JDI's Massachusetts White Ribbon Day Campaign continues to expand exponentially. Each summer we invite our WRD Campaign Affiliates to debrief on our past campaign and to begin envisioning the year ahead. As we enter our seventh year of the WRD Campaign, seven seems to be the lucky number: staff from seven JDI Member programs (Casa Myrna, Center for Women & Community, Family & Community Resources, Inc., Independence House, MAPS, NELCWIT and Safe Passage) and seven community Affiliates attended the meeting held at Massachusetts Medical Society in Waltham on July 25th. Winter Storm No Match for Energy at 6th Annual WRD

While a winter storm kept many away, over 250 people participated in Jane Doe Inc.’s sixth annual Massachusetts White Ribbon Day (WRD) on March 7, 2013. The snow didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits as the crowd at the State House raised their voices in support of men’s efforts - and the efforts of everyone - end sexual and domestic violence.

It's three weeks until Massachusetts White Ribbon Day and one day until Valentine's Day. What do these two events have in common? Thanks to artist and activist Eve Ensler, One Billion Rising offers one connection: One Billion Rising is a global celebration of genuine love that moves beyond harmful stereotypes and asks us all to commit to being part of the solution in ending violence against women. It’s Countdown Time for the 5th Annual Massachusetts White Ribbon Day

It’s countdown time for the 5th Annual Massachusetts White Ribbon Day, and we’re counting on you to help make it as successful as ever.

The momentum is building:

  • Our allies at Northeastern University invited the competing teams in this year’s 60th Anniversary Beanpot Tournament to join the WRD Campaign. All the players put a white ribbon on their helmets and demonstrated that along with the shared prestige of being a student-athlete comes responsibility for adhering to the White Ribbon Day Pledge and being a role model for others. It was cool to see the video with the Team Captains taking the pledge up on the jumbotron. Read More...
