Many Thanks and Congratulations to all!

Thank you everyone for your many efforts and work to make our White Ribbon Day a great success this year.

This was our largest audience to date, 450 to 500 people attended the event yesterday at the State House.  The program came together well and was inspiring to all.   Many Jane Doe Member Programs attended this event, advocates for life saving work every day with survivors of sexual and domestic violence.

Some of the larger community groups who attended include, Hanscom Air Force Base,  Pembroke Middle School and High School, Hingham High School Track Team, St. John’s Prep School, Start Strong Youth Team Boston, and Salem State College.   A good number of elected officials joined us, including representatives, senators, and several city and town mayors.  Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin joined as well for the WRD pledge.

The program included an impressive roster of experienced voices including Secretary of EOHHS John Polanowicz, Partners HealthCare President and CEO, Gary Gottlieb, MD, Pastor Ronald Odom, and Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo.  Video messages were shown by Governor Deval Patrick and Congressman Bill Keating.  Art was brought into the program in two forms, A video of a very moving spoken work peformance by Pages Matam, "Man on the Bus" and two insightful live skits by the Phallacies Theater Troop of UMass Amherst.

Here are a few initial photos from yesterday’s WRD Event at the State House.

We have distributed over 17,000 ribbon so far this year alone, which is almost as many as we have distributed in all of the years before.  Each step we have taken together has combined to bring the White Ribbon Day Campaign to a new level.  There are now 86 WRD Campaign Affiliate Organizations, 43 of which are JDI Member Programs.  Please don’t forget to let others know that you are a WRD Campaign Affiliate when holding events and producing materials.

The campaign is year round, and continues with events scheduled through March and April.  See our calendar online for details:

Please tell us if you don’t see your event on our calendar!

Stay tuned, as there will be more photos and video available in the days and weeks ahead.
