First Fridays Youth Open Mic - theme White Ribbon Day, hosted by Center for Community Health and Health Equity
From 7-9pm at the First Baptist Church in Jamaica Plain (633 Centre St, by the post office). We will be featuring Armor Bearer, a dynamic Christian rapper, the Youth Choir of Myrtle Baptist Church of West Newton, spoken word by Carrington Moore, and many others!
We are also excited to be collaborating with youth leaders from the Center for Community Health and Health Equity at Brigham and Women's Hospital, who suggested that we theme our open mic around White Ribbon Day and the cause of ending violence against women (and men). We are asking all performers to speak creatively to this theme!
In addition to our featured performers, the mic will be OPEN for spoken word, music, comedy, rap, drama, poetry, etc. Please spread the word! (Forward this email, invite friends on Facebook, bring a friend.) There will be people there of all ages but mostly youth and young adults, typically. We always welcome more performances, planned or not.
First Fridays is a collaborative project of the First Baptist Church in Jamaica Plain and the JP Church (Christian Scientist). It is a safe space for youth (covering a broad age-range) to share their talents and perspectives, and experiment with various forms of artistic expression. First Fridays is a public venue where people of all faiths and identities are welcome to be themselves and to be accepted for who they are. It is also a place of intercultural and interracial conversation and relationship-building, where youth and adults can process their struggles in life, share their faith, dreams, and ideals, and learn more about issues of social, economic, and environmental justice. With all that, it is simply somewhere for youth and people of all ages to come on a Friday night to have a good time.
